Our CEONORFOLK, VA - Anthony J. DiFilippo has served as President and CEO of the Norfolk Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (VisitNorfolk) since February 2001.  An active and progressive leader within the hotel and hospitality industry, DiFilippo has contributed significantly to the development in Norfolk’s tourism since joining VisitNorfolk.   Prior to his current role, he served as General Manager for Marriott, Hilton and Sheraton hotels in ten different cities throughout the United States. His most recent assignment was as General Manager of the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel and Waterside Convention Center.

“This dynamic destination has blossomed into a diverse city with limitless potential.  It’s such an exciting time to be involved with the community, and I’m proud to be influential in leading Norfolk into becoming a great southern city worth exploring,” says Anthony DiFilippo President and CEO of VisitNorfolk.  “Whether we are hosting a military reunion with 20 attendees, a conference with 1,000 attendees or a fun weekend getaway for a family, it’s important that we at the CVB make sure everyone’s needs are met and that they leave wanting to return.”

Tony DiFilippo is actively involved in the community, serving on several boards and with leadership roles in the Downtown Norfolk Council, The Hospitality Cluster, Norfolk Hotel and Motel Association and The Greater Norfolk Corporation, and is a member of Meetings Planners International, The Society of Association Executives and the Destination Marketing Association International. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Norfolk Tourism Research Foundation, a not-for-profit organization which provides training and research in the tourism and hospitality industry to employees, students and the local community.

DiFilippo’s dedication to Norfolk’s leisure travel and meetings and convention growth was rewarded recently with a nomination by fellow members of the Association of Convention Operations Management (ACOM) for the 2005 Executive Excellence Award.  This award is presented to a general manager, president, CEO, or department director who demonstrates a commitment to quality in their organization’s convention service operation.

In his downtime, DiFilippo enjoys boating, golfing and traveling. A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, he now lives in the Ocean View neighborhood of Norfolk with his wife of 20 years, Karen.
