Garden Week Takes Visitors On Special Tours of
“Secluded Havens” in the City
Thursday, May 1, 2014
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Harborfront Garden Club and Garden Club of Norfolk will play host to special tours in honor of Historic Garden Week happening across Virginia.
The Garden May Day celebration will explore areas along the beautiful Lafayette River in the adjoining communities of Meadowbrook and Algonquin Park.
Residents in these two neighborhoods enjoy tranquility in the midst of the bustling City of Norfolk. Picket fences, verdant flowerbeds, and worn brick paths take the place of sidewalks in this secluded haven. These areas were developed in the early 1920s and feature a web of shaded lanes revealing homes of every architectural style and size.
This tour is primarily a walking tour but shuttles will be provided from various parking venues as on street parking will be extremely limited. Lunch served at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Refreshments and special May Day activities will be provided in the garden.
Each spring visitors are welcomed to more than 250 of Virginia's most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks during "America's Largest Open House." This 8-day statewide event provides visitors a unique opportunity to see unforgettable gardens at the peak of Virginia's springtime color, as well as beautiful houses sparkling with over 2,000 fabulous flower arrangements created by Garden Club of Virginia members.
