St. Patrick's Day Parade 2017 MapThere are two types of people in this world: those that count down the days until Christmas, and those that count down the days until the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ocean View.

For 50 years the Irish-born and Irish-at-heart have been turning the streets of Ocean View fifty shades of green! Whether you are a seasoned vet or a first timer, we have put together a fool-proof guide guaranteed to bring out the Irish in you!

WEEK BEFORE THE PARADE
March 11, 2017 | 6:30 p.m.

Kick off your week of green by dancing at the night away at the Knights of Columbus. This ticketed dinner honors the 50th Year Celebration of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

DAY BEFORE THE PARADE

So technically it’s St. Patrick’s Day, but don’t let Friday be the main event. Consider this day as your dress rehearsal for tomorrow’s shenanigans! Some parade attendees spend weeks planning out the perfect outfit, but if you follow our guidelines you will have a lucky outfit in litte to no time.
The Unofficial Fashion Rules of the Parade
1.    Think Green: There is a plethora of greens to choose from: Kelly Green, Forest Green, Emerald Green, or maybe even Lime Green. The world is yours!
2.    All That Glitters is Gold: Find a pot of gold and dive on into it! Douse your hair with glitter, layer on gold beads or paint your fingernails a sparkly shade of gold. Remember, there is no such thing as “too much” glitter.
3.    Be Bold: This is your chance to really shine. Wear a bright green top hat with matching suspenders and strut the streets! Don’t be shy, we like to be bold and creative here in Norfolk.

PARADE DAY

“The early leprechaun catches the pot of gold.” – Old Irish Proverb

Although the parade doesn’t start until midmorning, you might want to secure a perfect spot for watching the parade. At 10 a.m. sharp the fun begins at Northside Middle School and wraps up around noon towards the Knights of Columbus on Government Avenue. Filled with marching bands, clowns and tons of floats, this parade will put you in the spirit!

**Disclaimer: After the parade, the crowd is better suited for those who are 21 years of age and older**

1 p.m. After the parade is when the real fun starts! Make your way down to the Knights of Columbus and you will find yourself in the center of the action. Here you will find beer trucks, live music, and more! Need a change of scenery? Head towards parade- favorite Greenies! Conveniently located by the water, this bar is the best place to sit back and enjoy a pint or two.

4 p.m. The after party ends at 4 pm, but the after-the-after party kicks off at Mojo Bones. A quick walk across the street and you’ll find your way into this local hang out.

Have fun! And remember, drink responsibly.
