Last year, Americans let 662 million vacations days go unused. It’s time to spend your Fridays doing anything but working. Take a break from the emails, the meetings that run on for too long and all those sad desk salads, it’s time to CRUSH FRIDAY!
Taking that well deserved time off is proven to boost your health, happiness and even your productivity at work. So this year stop letting those vacation days go to waste and add a vacation to Norfolk, Virginia to the top of your self-care checklist. To make it even easier for you, we pulled together a list of our own favorite ways to Crush Friday!
TOUR THE NEON DISTRICT
Our very first arts district is full of life and continues to create a fun and inviting atmosphere with its unique restaurants, public art, live exhibits, shops and more. It is also one of the most photographed areas in the city.
Start your day at Commune, a true farm to table restaurant, and treat yourself to something delicious. During the work week, they only charge five bucks for their killer breakfast sandwich and a coffee. What a deal!
After breakfast, tour the district and check out vibrant street murals as you make your way to the Chrysler Museum of Art. At the Chrysler Museum’s Glass Studio, your idea could become their next work of art with “You Draw It, We Make It." Each Friday, the studio artists select a sketch to recreate during the free noon demonstration. Let your imagination run wild and watch the talented team at Chrysler make your drawing a reality.
KICK BACK WITH A COLD ONE
It's time to discover another creative outlet, the art of beer making at O'Connor Brewing Company. Fridays are the days that O’Connor Brewing holds their beer releases, so kick off the weekend with a brand new brew fresh off their pilot system. O’Connor’s is known for their New England IPAs, goses and other fun brews. Crush a few cold ones on their outdoor patio and beer garden. Challenge your squad to a friendly game of cornhole. Simply enjoy the art of not working.
TURN UP DOWNTOWN
Feeling the need to get physical? Take a stroll or bike ride along the Elizabeth River Trail. This 10.5-mile trail runs along the waterfront and is filled with adventure and historic sites. Then, take a much needed shopping break! Hit up MacArthur Center, downtown's retail mecca that is home to over 140 designer and name brand stores. Don't miss out on our local shops, too! A short walk away is Selden Market, a pop-up style market that offers a unique shopping experience.
After all the shopping, make a stop at Waterside District. Set along the Elizabeth River, Waterside District has the power to help you forget about those work emails as you stare off into the sunset and slurp down some freshly shucked oysters and enjoy a few orange crushes.
The party doesn't stop there! Downtown Norfolk is home to one of the best street parties! Join in on the fun every first Friday as the best bands, food trucks and vendors take over Granby Street.
