Hermitage Museum & Gardens
Internationally acclaimed British artist Bruce Munro presents a ten piece sculpture exhibition at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens. Known for his immersive, large scale light-based installations, this is the artist’s first mid-Atlantic exhibition and only fourth show in the United States, created specifically to transform and enhance the Hermitage’s gardens, mansion, and waterfront views. Two new installations inspired by Munro’s trip to the Hermitage, Lighthouse and Wave, will be on display as well as his popular pieces Field of Light, Water Towers, and Fireflies.
Munro conveys his love of experimentation through flickering fluorescent tubes, LED-lit water bottles, fresnel lenses reminiscent of owl’s eyes, and an inventive reuse of materials. During the exhibit, visitors will wander the Hermitage forest, gardens, boardwalk, and the shoreline of the Lafayette River as they are guided by Munro’s interactive displays. The museum will also house two pieces, a prototype of a building Munro hopes to create and a permanent suspended artwork in the front foyer.
The Hermitage will offer extended evening hours to present this unforgettable exhibition under the stars. A cash bar, food trucks, and merchandise will be available for purchase. #LightatHermitage
