NORFOLK, Va. - The MacArthur Memorial in downtown Norfolk this week received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award for 2015. This is the second consecutive year the Memorial has won this award. The accolade honors hospitality excellence, and is awarded to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on the TripAdvisor website. Establishments awarded the Certificate of Excellence are located all over the world and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on the website.

“This is a huge feather in our cap,” said Chris Kolakowski, MacArthur Memorial Director. “It is a testament to the continued professionalism, commitment, and enthusiasm of our staff, which clearly shows through to our visitors. The award is also a remarkable vote of confidence in the Memorial and what we do.”

Organizations must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, judged by volume and currency of reviews. The MacArthur Memorial scored a rating of 4.5.

“TripAdvisor is pleased to honor exceptional destinations for consistent excellence,” said Marc Charron, President of TripAdvisor for Business. “The Certificate of Excellence award gives top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most – their customers.”

The MacArthur Memorial was founded in 1964 as a museum and archive dedicated to the life and times of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, who is buried in the Memorial’s rotunda with his wife Jean. The City of Norfolk operates the Memorial in close partnership with the nonprofit General Douglas MacArthur Foundation. It averages over 40,000 visitors per year, and is open free of charge.
