NORFOLK, Va. – The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) will convene at their annual convention in Norfolk, July 22-28, 2012. The LCCA was founded in 1970 to promote the awareness and enjoyment of toy trains with emphasis on Lionel electric trains. Today, the LCCA is an international organization with more than 8,000 members.

This year’s convention theme is “A Lifetime of Happiness with Toy Trains,” and will feature Norfolk’s railway history. LCCA President Dennis DeVito said, “the club chose Norfolk as the LCCA Convention location because Norfolk is a railroad town and well-known to rail fans as the home of the famed Norfolk and Western (now Norfolk Southern) Railroad.”

On Monday, July 23 LCCA members will travel aboard a Norfolk Southern Vintage Executive Train for a five-hour round trip excursion to Petersburg, VA. Additional train-related activities are also scheduled that week including the opening of the Lionel Company train layout starting Wednesday, July 25th. As large as a four-stall garage, the layout will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. July 25-27 and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on July 28th. The public is also invited to enjoy a trading hall where people will have the opportunity to buy model trains on Saturday, July 28th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. Boy Scouts from around Hampton Roads are encouraged to attend the show in uniform for the opportunity to earn a Railroading Merit Badge, while Girl Scouts have the opportunity to earn a Norfolk Southern Girl Scout Patch. Ronald from the Ronald McDonald House will greet the public from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Also, Operation Lifesaver, a railroad safety organization, will be present. A children’s toy train play area will be set-up in the atrium of the hotel for hands-on fun. For more information, please visit the LCCA Web site at or e-mail">
