Virginia Arts Festival Presents VAF Fringe in 2016
April 28 – May 1

On more than one occasion, the Virginia Arts Festival has imported performers from the legendary Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland—the place where some of the world’s most unique, entertaining and innovative artists and shows have gotten their start. Now the Virginia Arts Festival is launching its own mini-Fringe, April 28 – May 1.

dotMaze: Get Lost!

Have you ever found yourself inside a labyrinth or lost yourself in a maze? Well, now’s your chance to do both inside dotMaze: Get Lost! – dotComedy’s 50-foot square hedge maze filled with installations, soundscapes, a cast of the uncanny and a somewhat unpredictable minotaur. More Information>> 

Abbie Gardner

Glass Wheel Studio

Best known as one-third of the female harmony Americana trio Red Molly, Abbie has listened to the sweet sound of high lonesome harmonies since her first bluegrass festival at three years old. Leaning heavily on bluegrass sounds and instruments, Gardner yodels and mourns with the best of them, with a range and flexibility that stretches from old school folk, to jazz, to pop, to rock 'n' roll. More Information>> 

Hot Sardines

Take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso in the Fats Waller vein, and tie the whole thing together with a one-of-the-boys frontwoman with a voice from another era, and you have the Hot Sardines. More Information>> 

National Theatre of Scotland: The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart

Here's an incredibly inventive and entertaining piece of theater, live music and strange goings-on, so pull up a chair and whet your whistle—because this show is performed live at the Harrison Opera House Black Box Theatre. And in this pub-within-the-pub setting, you'll see unfold the story of Prudencia Hart, an uptight academic whose serious research into ancient Scottish ballads is drawn astray by those who sing them best…with a glass or two of whisky. Kishi Bashi String Quartet Live!

Indie rock violin master Kishi Bashi has been the go-to guy for artists like Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, of montreal, and others when they're in need of some tasty violin licks. A Night of NYC Comedy
