This FREE walking tour will explore Downtown Norfolk's rich history of the live theater and the performing arts. Utilizing in-depth research and historical photos, we will:
-Reconstruct a vision of Downtown Norfolk's theater community
-View the exteriors of current and former theaters
-Discuss performers and shows that graced the city's stages
-Learn how the performing arts have shaped Downtown Norfolk over the centuries
We'll cover all forms of theater, from the silver screen, to burlesque, live drama, big bands, opera, vaudeville, comedy — if it was on a stage or screen, we'll talk about it!
Due to Coronavirus, this year's fall arts season will be largely cancelled. We offer this tour content as a source of hope, and as a reminder of the glory of the arts. Also due to Coronavirus, this tour will take place entirely outdoors. We will not be entering any theaters or buildings, and will be meeting in front of the Slover Library on Plume St. Social distancing will be required, and we will be limiting the number of people who can attend.
Please "register" for the tour through Facebook by clicking the "Reserve a Spot" button (not by clicking "interested" or "going" please).
*This tour is free to the public thanks to Downtown Norfolk Council*
We look forward to sharing the magic of this city's theater history with you all
