April 27, 28 @ 8:00pm
April 29 @ 3:00pm
Join Todd Rosenlieb Dance and nationally acclaimed Dance Kaleidoscope (DK) for an evening of modern dance that will change the way you see concert dance in Hampton Roads. These sister dance companies bring a wealth of cultural riches together by sharing the stage for the first time in downtown Norfolk. Following a truly successful concert last April in Indianapolis, DK’s home, TRDance will host this remarkably talented group of professional dancers, choreographers, and designers to join together and present an historical evening of entertaining, provocative, and theatrical modern dance.
The evening is filled with the influence of dance history. TRDance Artistic Director Todd Rosenlieb worked closely as dancer and company director with dance legend Erick Hawkins while DK Artistic Director David Hochow joined the Martha Graham dance company in 1980 and served as Martha Graham’s rehearsal director from 1986-1989. These legends of modern dance (and one time husband and wife) will appear together again in spirit on stage here in Hampton Roads.
Todd Rosenleib Dance performs cutting edge, innovative and inspiring modern dance repertoire that blends classical and modern forms, the “downtown” spirit, hints of pop culture and a keen sense of musicality. An eclectic sensibility allows for the use of a diverse musical palette that ranges from Brahms to Rufus Wainwright. TRDance will present a Hampton Roads premiere, Quartetto, by acclaimed choreographer and guest artist Maurice Fraga, along with Yma choreographed by Artistic Director Todd Rosenlieb, and Latin Sketches by Associate Artistic Director Ricardo Melendez. All three dances highlight the sheer grace and athleticism of the company.
Dance Kaleidoscope, Indiana’s longest-dancing professional contemporary dance company since 1972, is celebrating its 46th season. As a mainstay of its mission, DK consistently brings the finest quality dance performance to diverse audiences of all ages with a strong emphasis on arts education. DK will present 2 powerful solos Ave Maria and Losing My Mind and finish their offering with Piaf: A Celebration. All works choreographed by David Hochow.
Come out and celebrate with Todd Rosenlieb Dance and Dance Kaleidoscope for an evening of contemporary dance that you won’t forget.
