Things are heating up this summer!
The Chrysler Museum of Art’s Perry Glass Studio – proud host of this year’s prestigious Glass Art Society Conference – and the City of Norfolk invite you to join us for free fun surrounding this national gathering of glass art enthusiasts.
DAY OF GLASS
Wednesday, May 31, 2017
Four demos, one afternoon
With the eyes of the glass world upon Norfolk, local glass artists will showcase their talents at multiple locations in the NEON Arts District. It's a way to welcome conference attendees and show the general public why glass is such a magic medium and such a big deal.
The Chrysler Museum Perry Glass Studio hosts a fiery free show.
The attention moves to the Studio parking lot, where a massive mobile studio from the Corning Museum of Glass will host hot glass demos.
The spotlight falls on the TCC Three-Ring Circus, a mobile hot shop set up in the parking lot next to Glass Wheel Studios, 128 W. Olney Road.
The focus moves from glassblowing to flameworking, as Chrysler Studio artists set up shop inside, 759 Granby Street.
In addition to Day of Glass demonstrations, you can find free public performances at Tidewater Community College’s Norfolk Campus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and Thursday and Friday evenings beginning at 9 p.m. Artists scheduled to appear include:
- Nanda Soderberg
- Thor Bueno
- The Jamestown Glassblowers
- Dawn Passineau
- Gary Bodker
- Hank Murta Adams
- Unbreakable & Nkosi Barber
- Flock the Optic
Tune into the Rhythm of the City
Alongside the mobile hot shop exhibition, Glass Wheel's courtyard will host a piano decorated by our studio artists as a part of Luke Jerram's 'Play Me, I'm Yours' project presented by the Virginia Arts Festival and The Chrysler Museum of Art from May 23 to June 4, 2017. A number of pianos, decorated by local artists and community groups, will populate streets, parks and other public spaces across Norfolk for everyone to play and enjoy.
