November 17-January 14 - MacArthur Center kicks off the 14th season of ice skating at the center's 7,200-square-foot outdoor rink. Enjoy public skating sessions, ice hockey clinics, figure skating exhibitions and more. Those new to the ice or feeling a bit rusty can sign up for private lessons or get a helping hand from skate guards on-site. Regular admission is $7 for skating and $7 for skate rental.
Ongoing - This holiday season, try your hand at hot glassblowing! Adjacent to the renowned Chrysler Museum of Art is the ultramodern Chrysler Glass Studio where free demonstrations are offered daily. And there's a fully equipped hot shop where beginners can learn to turn molten glass on a pipe and use tools, heat, gravity, and air pressure to transform it into your very own Christmas ornament.
November 17 - The 34th Annual Grand Illumination Parade has a special Broadway theme this year. Free and open to the public, the parade features spectacular floats, marching bands, dancers and Old Saint Nick himself.
November 9-December 15 - Norfolk's Botanical Garden lights up for the Million Bulb Walk. Guests can walk through a spectacular two-mile display of dazzling Christmas lights, kick-starting the holiday season. Tickets can be purchased here and cost $10 for garden members and $12 for non-members. Children under two are admitted free.
November 17-18 - Norfolk's Half Marathon weekend is quickly approaching. The Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon and Chartway 5K course runs throughout historic downtown and features three separate races - a Half Marathon, 5K and Kids Mile. Be sure to check out the post-race party at Town Point Park where there will be plenty of beer on tap.
November 17-December 31 - One of the region's favorite holiday traditions, Dickens' Christmas Towne, returns to Nauticus this season. This interactive holiday experience includes a line-up of musicians, carolers, an enchanted Christmas tree forest and much more. Tickets will be available for purchase soon and will cost $5 for all. Children under two are admitted free.
November 24 - December 31 - The Norfolk Botanical Garden's Dominion Garden of Lights is a holiday tradition in Norfolk! This drive-through experience includes an extravagant display of half-a-million twinkling lights that illuminate the Garden, and features a fire pit with s'mores and hot chocolate, nightly family activities and more. Tickets will be available for purchase soon and cost $25 per car (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) or $20 per car (Monday - Thursday).
