Elmwood Cemetery was established in 1853. It is a Victorian Garden Cemetery, and the final resting place for hundreds of Civil War soldiers, many of Norfolk's founders and Virginia Governor Littleton Waller Tazewell (1774-1860). Elmwood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and is now commemorated with a Historic Highway Marker along Princess Anne Road.
