Norfolk, Virginia, is a top destination for travelers looking to take a road trip with their dogs. As many people adopted new furry friends during the pandemic, these destinations welcome dogs with open arms.
Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel
The Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel welcomes four-legged travelers with a comfy pet bed, food bowls and a designated play area to get the puppy zoomies out. The beautiful hotel is the only hotel on the water to allow pets and is surrounded by more than 17 pet-friendly restaurants with outdoor patios.
Right out the back door of the Sheraton hotel is Elizabeth River Trail. This 10.5-mile-long trail takes travelers and their dogs along a path with views of the river, through historical neighborhoods, past the USS Wisconsin and Nauticusmilitary ships and museums, and The Pagoda Oriental Garden. The trail shows off the area’s rich history of culture and military life through the different sections.
Along Elizabeth River Trail, Town Point Park is the perfect spot to play fetch, learn some tricks or take an afternoon nap with your dog. With eight acres of space, the park is a serene place to enjoy some sun. The park has free events throughout the summer for all ages to enjoy. From concerts to golf, food festivals and comedy shows, Town Point Park keeps visitors entertained for free!
The NEON Arts District is a collaboration of good food, music, people and events. The bulk of the area on Granby Street is the perfect destination to grab food or a drink at one of the many outdoor patios with your dog, or snap a photo in front of the beautiful, unique wall murals. The district hosts many events throughout the year, like the glow ride for bikers to ride at night, concerts, comedy shows, art demonstrations and more.
