Craft Beer Tours
The craft beer scene in Norfolk has boomed in recent years, and the city is proud to be the home of four brewing companies, a handful of brew pubs and an annual beer festival. Located in the Chelsea district of Norfolk, Smartmouth Brewing Company is a 20-barrel craft brewhouse that makes about 250 barrels a month. The brewery has an 1100-square-foot tasting room open to the public where you can drink or purchase your own beer. The tasting room is family- friendly, and the deck and driveway are dog-friendly. Free tours hourly of the production facility starting at 2:15PM.
Located in the historic Ghent district is O’Connor Brewing Company. O’Connor’s offers free brewery tours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, during tasting room hours (Monday-Thursday; 4-8PM/Friday 4-9PM/Saturday; Noon-9PM/Sunday; Noon-6PM). Also located in Ghent is Coelacanth Brewing and not far from Ghent is the Bold Mariner Brewing Company, both of which also offer a large tasting rooms and communal style seating. For a guided craft beer tour, contact Taste Virginia Tours. Customers will be guided through local brewery’s offerings on the Taste Virginia Tours’ Norfolk Craft Beer Tour. The tours generally last at least four hours, include three stops and provide behind-the-scenes information (and access when available) to local breweries and brewpubs. Guests will learn about the evolution, styles and production of beer. The guide will also explain how to select and pair beer with food.
