End of Massive Resistance Wall

114 W. Charlotte St., Norfolk, VA 23510

Unveiled in 2023, this 57-foot long and eight-foot high wall is composed of glass and brick. It serves as tribute to the “Norfolk 17,” the group of students who underwent a bitter statewide fight to keep them from desegregating Norfolk’s public schools. Eventually, in 1959, these 17 students succeeded in integrating. The monument is designed by Shane Albritton and Norman Lee and is found in Flatiron Park across from the Scope Arena.
