Flameworking: Basics and Beyond with Sally Prasch

In this five-day workshop, students will explore the fascinating techniques of scientific glassblowing while creating a series of unique projects. Participants will learn essential skills including ring, blind, and side seals, applying them directly to individual work scaled to each student’s experience level. Along the way, students will create imaginative objects such as musical instruments, flowers, candle holders, and both solid and hollow chain. This hands-on course offers a rare opportunity to combine precision scientific techniques with artistic expression in glass. At least one year flameworking experience suggested.
Class time 9am-5pm, M-F, July 6-10. Optional student work time 6-9pm M-Th.

Camp Art Stars: Furry Friends & Colorful Creations for ages 9 – 12

Camp Art Stars is an extraordinary camp for extraordinary young artists! Each camp session, led by a professional art educator, is bustling with hands-on artmaking, experimentation with novel art materials, workshops with diverse professional artists, and fun collaborative learning experiences at the world renown Chrysler Museum of Art. At Camp Art Stars, process is valued over product and creative problem-solving is not only encouraged but also celebrated.

Marvel at the Chrysler Museum’s amazing works of art during this weeklong camp for young artists! Fabricate furry friends, mix modeling magic, paint proportional portraits, and create colorful collages while making new artsy buddies. Young artists will discover works of art in the galleries and find inspiration from the neighborhood nature. Camp Art Stars artists will show off their talents during the celebratory Art Show Friday.

Art Stars are asked to bring lunch and snacks.  All art supplies are included, along with either a Chrysler Museum T-shirt or apron.  We kindly ask Art Stars to wear their T-shirt or aprons daily to help support camp camaraderie and the security of all campers. Each day will feature artmaking, gallery visits, and outdoor playtime (weather permitting). Art Stars will check out the Perry Glass Studio noon demo to learn more about the exciting material.

For ages 9 – 12

Members $330, Non-members $375. Space is limited, registration required.

Registration opens March 1, 2026. Member registration opens February 1, 2026.

It’s time for a fabulous event celebrating four decades of creativity and community! This exciting event combines the fun of Mahjong in our beautiful venue, all to honor d’Art Center’s incredible 40 years of inspiring artists and art lovers alike.

Join us at 11a.m. to mix and mingle in our Main Gallery, surrounded by gorgeous artworks, while you enjoy light brunch bites and a complimentary mimosa bar. Upon arriving you’ll receive a raffle ticket for one of several fun Mahj-inspired gifts! Each time you Mahjong, you’ll score another raffle ticket! Open play in the Main Gallery will begin at 12pm. Please remember a full table of 4 is required to participate, and to indicate your table players on the registration form.

Would you also be surprised to find out that they navigate their way back to their home rivers by using their sense of smell! Come join us here at Nauticus for “Smell Like A Sturgeon”, an interactive floor program that tests your sense of smell to see if you have what it takes to sniff your way home like the Atlantic Sturgeon.

Smell Like A Sturgeon activity is included in general admission.

World’s Fairs were always grand six-month long exhibitions that enthralled fairgoers across the globe. Attendees returned home with all stories filled with excitement and wonderment. However, not all of the stories ended well. While each fair had many amazing stories, they each had an underlying darker story to tell. This lecture will focus on the stories of calamities, malice, accidents and other tragedies of the world’s fairs. Disclaimer: Mature and Sensitive Content will be included. Discretion is advised.

Suggested age: 12 and up with minors 17 and under accompanied by an adult.

Part of the ticket sales will support NitaHand, a community based outreach organization dedicated to helping children with behavioral needs and lifting up women, mothers, children, and underserved families.

Writer Luce is playing Sally; her partner in romance and art, Mike, is both the director and playing Tom – what could go wrong?  Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks examines art, power and American History in this humorous and harrowing play.

Ocean View Witch Walk: 250 Years of Legends and Lore

Join the OV Sea Hags for a magical, interactive witch walk celebrating Norfolk250!


This family-friendly community event blends music, dance, local history, and coastal folklore as participants walk alongside the troupe through a series of theatrical historical storytelling checkpoints. Guests are encouraged to dress in witch attire or period-inspired costumes representing Ocean View’s rich 250-year history. As twilight falls along the boardwalk, the journey will explore legendary moments from our shoreline’s past, including the hurricane that formed Willoughby Spit, the 1776 escape of enslaved people from Willoughby Plantation, the Ocean View Railroad resort era, WWII history at the Nansemond Hotel, and the cultural legacy of Seaview Beach. The evening concludes with the OV Sea Hags’ signature German Witch Broom Dance finale celebrating the resilient spirit and community of Ocean View.
