Glass After Dark: Visiting Artist Series – Helen Lee and Ruth Tamura

Hot glass and live music come together for memorable evenings during Glass After Dark. Each month, watch the Perry Glass Studio team take the molten material to exciting places and enjoy entertainment by local musicians.

Helen Lee is an artist, designer, and educator. She holds an MFA in Glass from RISD and a BSAD in Architecture from MIT. Her work is in the collections of Minnesota Museum of American Art, Corning Museum of Glass, Chrysler Museum Glass Studio, and Toyama City Institute of Glass Art. Recent exhibitions include: Exuviae at Art Lit Lab, Through a Glass Darkly at Delaware Contemporary, and Momentum | Intersection at Toledo Museum of Art. Lee has taught at Rhode Island School of Design, California College of Art, Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Ox-Bow School of Art, China Academy of Art, Toyama City Institute of Glass Art and the MIT Glass Lab. She is currently an Associate Professor and Head of Glass in the Art Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and proudly serves as the Director of GEEX, the Glass Education Exchange

Doors open at 7 p.m. The event begins at 8 p.m.

Visiting Artist Series Talk: Helen Lee and Ruth Tamura

Helen Lee is an artist, designer, and educator. She holds an MFA in Glass from RISD and BSAD in Architecture from MIT. Ruth Tamura graduated with a MA from CCAC (now CCA) in 1969. She was the first person at CCA to receive a MA in glass. In 1971, Ruth with Dale Chihuly, co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.

The Visiting Artist Series was created to bring world-class artists in the field of glass to our region, to promote glass education, and attract broad interest in and enthusiasm for the Chrysler Museum and its Glass Studio. The series is an invitation to work at the glass studio for four days, usually taking place from Thursday-Sunday. During this focused time, the artists are involved in a range of activities, which could include demonstrations and lectures at the Glass Studio for Museum visitors and the public, special demonstrations and lectures at the Glass Studio for Museum visitors and the public, special demonstrations and discussions for local high school and college students, visits and social events with museum donors and local collectors, and video/audio recording for the Chrysler’s website and archives.

As part of VA250, explore the complex and often overlooked roles Jewish people played during the American Revolution. From patriots and loyalists to financiers like Haym, Saloman, whose efforts helped sustain the Contintental cause, and to soldiers, sailors, and spies, this program examines how Jewish men and women navigated divided loyalties while helping to shape the emerging nation.

Camp Art Stars: Myths & Legends + Glass for ages 9 – 12

Camp Art Stars is an extraordinary camp for extraordinary young artists! Each camp session, led by a professional art educator, is bustling with hands-on artmaking, experimentation with novel art materials, workshops with diverse professional artists, and fun collaborative learning experiences at the world renown Chrysler Museum of Art. At Camp Art Stars, process is valued over product and creative problem-solving is not only encouraged but also celebrated.

Perfect for curious minds and creative spirits, participants in Myths & Legends will explore stories from cultures around the world. From clever tricksters to mysterious creatures, discover how myths and legends were used to explain the world, teach lessons, and inspire courage. Participants will build their own myths, design legendary characters, solve problems, and embark on epic quests at the Chrysler Museum and Perry Glass Studio. We cannot wait to experience the legendary myths your camper creates!

Art Stars are asked to bring lunch and snacks.  All art supplies are included, along with either a Chrysler Museum T-shirt or apron.  We kindly ask Art Stars to wear their T-shirt or aprons daily to help support camp camaraderie and the security of all campers. Each day will feature artmaking, gallery visits, and outdoor playtime (weather permitting). Art Stars will check out the noon demo at the Perry Glass Studio.

For ages 9 – 12

Members $450, Non-members $555. Space is limited, registration required.

Registration opens March 1, 2026. Member registration opens February 1, 2026.
