The Hurrah Players is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been providing high-quality arts education and family-friendly entertainment to the Hampton Roads community for more than 40 years.
Founded by Hugh Copeland and a group of community members who shared his dream of providing young people with exceptional arts training and performance opportunities, The Hurrah Players has grown from its roots in performing arts to offer creative opportunities both on stage and on screen.
Today, Hurrah offers year-round classes, camps, workshops, productions, and performance opportunities through its Performing Arts Academy and TV & Film Academy.
The Performing Arts Academy provides training for a variety of ages and skill levels in musical theatre, acting, singing, dance, stagecraft, and more. Students develop their skills in the classroom and have opportunities to bring them to life on stage through fully produced theatrical performances and community appearances.
The Hurrah TV & Film Academy expands Hurrah’s arts education from the stage to the screen. Designed for students ages 12–19, the Academy provides hands-on training in filmmaking, television production, directing, cinematography, photography, lighting, sound, editing, animation, scriptwriting, and digital storytelling. Students learn using professional equipment, a working television studio, and a dedicated editing suite while gaining real-world experience both behind and in front of the camera.
More than four decades after its founding, The Hurrah Players continues to grow and evolve while remaining committed to providing accessible, high-quality arts experiences that inspire creativity, build confidence, and give young people opportunities to discover where their talents can take them.
