Join tour guide and local history buff Joshua Weinstein of Norfolk Tour Company for an afternoon in the NEON District on a free walking tour. Each tour provides an in-depth and up-close look at the neighborhood’s extensive public art collection, featuring murals, sculpture, temporary artwork and neon signs.
In honor of Black History Month, February’s tour will focus on the many contributions Black Artists have made to the NEON District since its start. From some of the of first murals painted by local Black artists to significant works by Norfolk State University faculty and students to Black Lives Matter-themed murals, the tour will introduce attendees to the many ways the African-American experience has influenced the NEON’s collection of street art.
The tour begins at 2:00pm at The Plot, located at the corner of Granby Street and Olney Road, and will last about an hour.
NEON District public parking is available on the street, at the Plot’s parking lot, Chrysler Museum and the Harrison Opera House lot.
FREE and open to anyone!
