Learn why military patches are so important and then design your own!

Military patches are very important. They help with identification and they are also a source of pride for those who wear them, telling a story of how their unit was founded and their history. They come in many different designs and a lot of thought goes into what they look like because the patch is meant to say something about the people that wear it. Due to advance in printing technology, the popularity and accessible of paper dolls increased in the early 20th Century. By the 1930s, movie stars and brides were the most popular types of paper dolls. World War II challenged that for a time. During the war, millions of women joined service organizations, worked in industry, and served in the military to support the war effort. Their participation was encouraged by the government and by society. Paper dolls reflected this sentiment. During the 1940s, women’s war related uniforms became a prominent paper doll feature. Learn about the role of women during wartime while dressing up your own paper doll as a WAC, WAVE, riveter, and more!

Virginia’s Kendall Street Company are no strangers to having a wild time. The genre-fluid, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey’s McGee and Widespread Panic, songwriting of John Prine, experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd, progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa, and off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants. Including elements of crowd participation, off-the-cuff comedic bits, haphazard choreography, musical improvisation, and surprise musical guests, each Kendall Street Company concert is an experience unlike any other. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. Just remember to stay hydrated.
