Marketing Coordinator

VisitNorfolk is looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented, full-time Marketing Coordinator who will be responsible for providing support to the Director of Marketing & Communications in the areas of production management and with the Agency of Record on reviewing digital and print marketing, as well as assisting with development and creation of a comprehensive marketing plan and related activities. May work collaboratively with the Creative Design Specialist, Digital Content Manager, Communications Manager and Marketing & Communications Assistant.


  • Understand the Marketing & Communication team goals, objectives and programs; Develop and manage timelines, tracking and meeting deadlines for all design and campaign projects.
  • Liaison between vendors and other departments on project management; Act as the key point of contact for questions concerning brand guidelines, usage internally and externally for VisitNorfolk.
  • Work with Creative Design Specialist to assist in layout, content and accuracy of the information in the annual Visitors Guide and other brochure pieces; Manage, create and implement VisitNorfolk’s digital coupon program through Bandwango; Assists in the gathering of partners, information, sponsors and promotions for specific programs and marketing campaigns.
  • Manage and update all media screens in the VisitNorfolk Visitor’s Center; Proof all produced items from the Marketing department for quality assurance.
  • Work closely with outside agencies, writers and designers to edit and oversee copywriting, design, layout and production of promotional material; Be familiar with photography and videography databases, able to assist in updating and sharing photo collections.


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred with major course work in marketing, advertising, communications or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing or advertising, preferably in the travel and tourism industry or any equivalent combination or training and experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, as well as experience with Google Analytics.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational and project management skills, and ability to thrive and think creatively. Detail-oriented and a self-starter.

Convention Services Manager

VisitNorfolk is now hiring a Convention Services Manager to join our team of dedicated, service-oriented professionals. This position is responsible for supporting and assisting meeting planners throughout the entire planning and execution of their conference in order to provide a successful and memorable experience in Norfolk, as well as organizing, coordinating and directing operations required to service meetings, conventions, and events as assigned. Must have exceptional customer service skills, be able to foster relationships, and work with a wide variety of people. The ideal candidate will also have comprehensive knowledge of the Norfolk area, have a strong service approach with all whom they interact, and be a creative problem solver with endless energy and enthusiasm for promoting Norfolk and our partners. This position requires daytime, nighttime, and weekend availability based on event and conference needs.

Essential job functions:

  • Work with meeting planners to provide customized convention services to clients contracted to bring their conventions and groups to Norfolk; Complete knowledge of assigned groups’ needs. Maintain a thorough record of group details and services provided from initial contracting through convention completion and post-convention reporting; Update account and event in CRM system with notes and details of activities and related documents.
  • Coordinate and conduct planning visits with meeting planners requesting off-site events, hotels and other services; Prepare and deliver event materials needed for servicing conventions and events; Prepare group needs as agreed upon with meeting planner (name badges, gifts, information bags, etc.)
  • Assist clients with attendance boosting efforts. Work with the Director of Convention Services to provide necessary information about upcoming conventions and events to be distributed to city agencies and local partners and vendors.
  • Work closely with Convention Services team and other internal departments to plan and execute familiarization tours and other hosted industry events when assigned; in-person and virtual as directed; Work directly with the client to service groups not booked by the VisitNorfolk sales team (Service bookings)
  • Preparation of invoices, check requests, purchase orders, and expense reports, as well as preparation and management of an event budget.

The successful candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • College degree preferred with work experience, preferably in the hospitality industry. Strong customer service and business etiquette skills. Strong communication skills, initiative and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and ability to learn Adobe and other software as well as database management systems (Simpleview, Adobe suite, Concur, Blackbaud, etc.)
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work well independently and in a team environment. Work requires a high degree of accuracy, good judgment, excellent oral, proofreading, written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with the City of Norfolk and the 757 region.
  • Teamwork ethic is required
  • Valid driver’s license with dependable transportation; must have and maintain a clean driving record.

Foundation Director

Position Summary: The Director of the Norfolk Tourism Foundation (NTF) is the primary leadership position for the not-for-profit corporation and is responsible for working with the Foundation’s board of directors in creating and implementing a bold vision and strategy to achieve the Foundation’s mission and programs in support of VisitNorfolk. The Director operates in a high-profile role and must be capable of establishing, strengthening, and expanding strong alliances with key stakeholders (see list below) of the Norfolk community, including key business stakeholders, donors, Hospitality and Tourism related programs in the institutions of higher learning and Norfolk Public Schools, and the general public.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the growth of assets, establishing and achieving annual goals.
  • Work closely with VisitNorfolk’s President and CEO to support and enhance private funding initiatives and donor relations.
  • Work closely with VisitNorfolk’s Chief Financial Officer in determining priorities for the allocation of Foundation’s resources in support of VisitNorfolk.
  • Work closely with the VisitNorfolk team to host the annual NTF golf tournament and other fundraising activities.
  • Plan with VisitNorfolk to host an annual Industry Rally recognizing the city’s most hospitable workers.
  • Identify and contact opportunities; draft and submit proposals to apply for financial grants and proposals from government departments, foundations, and other agencies.
  • Lead major projects and initiatives as requested by VisitNorfolk.


  • Minimum three to five years of nonprofit fundraising and/or program management experience.
  • Track record in achieving or exceeding annual goals for fundraising (individual, grant, or corporate.)
  • Prior grant writing experience with foundations, corporations and/or government agencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Ability to take initiative, share credit, and take responsibility for action.
  • Superior multi-tasking, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Compelling leadership, effective board relations, and strong management skills
  • Strong relationship and consensus-building skills; the ability to establish and/or strengthen relationships with the following key stakeholders:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively on the status of projects, programs, and events and identify problems and suggest solutions.

Visitor Information Specialist

Hours: Part-time, 10 – 20 hours a week

Position Summary: VisitNorfolk is looking for a dynamic, outgoing individual to represent Norfolk and the surrounding Coastal Virginia area to tourists, visitors and local residents alike from our brand new, state-of-the-art Mobile Visitor Center. This position requires the operation of a company-owned motor vehicle and extensive knowledge of the local area; specifically, the amenities and attractions that the City of Norfolk has to offer. Work involves providing detailed and accurate directions to area hotels, restaurants, attractions and businesses with the use of maps and/or the internet, as well as preparing, stocking and selling merchandise.

This position requires daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday availability based on the event, festival, and conference schedules.

Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years old to apply and have a valid driver’s license. Good communication skills and an outgoing personality are necessary as well as the ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for extended periods of time. General knowledge of Apple i-products and other basic technology preferred. Customer Service skills and retail experience are also preferred.

Internship Opportunities Available

Marketing/PR Intern:

This position is a hands-on role that works directly with the Communications Manager, Marketing Manager, Content Creator and Director of Marketing and Communications. The intern will assist the team with adding events and editing pages on the website, in-design projects for the sales team, research on journalists and bloggers, asset gathering for social media and more.

Norfolk Tourism Foundation Intern 

The focus of this internship will be the solicitation of the NTF Annual Gourmet Golf Tournament and procurement of in-kind donations for the silent auction packages, raffle items and other giveaway prizes. Additional duties will include working with the Convention Services & Visitors Information departments. Our goal is for the intern to gain a breadth of knowledge about non-profit fundraising, the Hospitality and Tourism industry, and the City of Norfolk.
