What began as a dream in Seattle is now a reality in Norfolk. At the tail end of the pandemic, Owner Kevin Dugan brought his vision back home, grounding it in the very city that shaped him. Only planning to stay a few months, he fell in love with the rich history and sense of community of Norfolk that provides constant support for his vision.
The name itself, “Union Overall Co.,” was uncovered during a deep dive into Norfolk’s history at the Slover Library. It’s more than just a clever throwback, it’s a tribute. An original piece from the historic Union Overall brand is proudly displayed inside the shop.
Walking into the shop is an experience of its own. The walls are decked out with vintage college merchandise, rotating seasonal inventory and even an authentic 19th-century samurai suit. But the real crown jewel? The jackets! Each one is made in-store using fabric sourced directly from the field and sheep in North Carolina. Limited stock means they don’t last long, so when a new drop hits, be sure to stop by.
Dugan is fiercely committed to zero waste. No scrap goes unused. Leftover materials from jacket and duffle bag production are repurposed into stylish beanies, pencil pouches, wallets and more. It’s a full-circle philosophy that prioritizes sustainability without compromising on style.
Every piece on the shop floor is thoughtfully curated. Dugan even admits that everything he stocks is something he’d proudly keep himself, and sometimes does. That includes a solid collection of vintage denim, with classic Levi’s and timeless motorcycle jackets that add character to any wardrobe.
