This rotating collection of prints by US Army photographer Nicholas Orzio portray the drastic changes experienced by Japan in the immediate years following World War II.
This exhibit presents a rotating set of photographs taken by Nicholas Orzio of the 71st Signal Service Battalion attached to General Headquarters (GHQ) in Tokyo. His service took him across the country from 1948-1949, and his photographs dramatically portray the story of tremendous change during Japan’s recovery from total defeat following WWII.

Visitors will learn about electricity, including series and parallel circuits, as they experiment to see if they can get holiday lights to light up using tinfoil and a battery.
āBlack is beautiful,ā is a phrase that was popularized in the 1970s to promote pride within the African American community. It was coined by artist Kwame Brathwaite who expressed this sentiment by photographing models wearing natural hairstyles and traditional clothing. He would eventually form his own modeling agency known as AJASSA.
