Visiting Artist Series: Vanessa German

February 27 2026

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Chrysler Museum Glass Studio 245 Grace Street, Norfolk VA 23510, Price: Price may vary

The Chrysler Museum Perry Glass Studio partners with Old Dominion University and the Barry Art Museum to welcome renowned citizen artist vanessa german as part of their Higher Education Visiting Artist Series. Working at the intersection of sculpture, performance, and communal ritual, german transforms found materials—glass, beads, crystals, and everyday objects—into expressive power figures that radiate healing, passion, love, and collective transformation. Drawing from precolonial and African diasporic traditions, her practice invites us to consider art as both vessel and catalyst for spiritual and communal renewal.

During her visit, german will work with students in our college and high school programs, be featured in our Glass After Dark Series and engage the public through live glass demonstrations and an artist talk, sharing her process and exploring how creativity can serve as a powerful force for connection and collective healing.

The Visiting Artist Series was created to bring world-class artists in the field of glass to our region, to promote glass education, and to attract broad interest in and enthusiasm for the Chrysler and its Glass Studio. The series is an invitation to work at the glass studio for four days, usually taking place from Thursday-Sunday. During this focused time the artists are involved in a range of activities, which could include demonstrations and lectures at the Glass Studio for Museum visitors and the public, special demonstrations and discussions for local high school and college students, visits and social events with museum donors and local collectors, and video/audio recording for the Chrysler’s website and archives.

Noon Demonstration by Visiting Artist: vanessa german.

Bury Me With Bourbon Tour

All Ages
Country artist Jay Webb writes songs that hit like a gut punch. He grew up bouncing between the backroads of North Alabama and the city in South Alabama, using music to make sense of the chaos around him. What started as a way to process a turbulent childhood quickly became his purpose–-gritty storytelling layered over genre-blurring beats, delivered with zero filter. He began recording demos in high school and never let up, releasing track after track on his own and building a following from the ground up. His lyrics cut deep, his voice carries the scars and his sound refuses to stay in one lane. Webb doesn’t try to clean up the mess–he leans into it, and has a goodtime doing it.
The genre-blurring artist pulls from a wide range of influences, pairing the weight of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams with the edge of Juice WRLD and Post Malone. It’s not traditional country, and he doesn’t want it to be. He calls it “music for real people with real problems” and his fans know exactly what that means. In 2022, a viral TikTok launched his music to a wider audience and since then he’s racked up more than 415M streams with a growing legion of fans over 2M strong. With standout tracks like “Down Here,” “Bury Me With Bourbon” and “Love Me Tonight,”–which led into his debut album “Where To Find Me”–Webb is charging forward and the numbers prove people are listening.

Music of Grateful Dead + More for Kids
feat. Kyle Folsom and friends
Doors 11:30am // Music 12pm
All Ages!  Kids 1 and under get in free.  Kids 2+ need a ticket.
The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country, allows kids to “move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. This children’s concert is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. See you at the show!

This concert for kids and families shares the music of the artist named above with a new generation of music lovers, but is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

The Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive, so we turn down the volume at our shows.  However, all kids experience music differently and you may find that your child is more comfortable wearing hearing protection earmuffs, such as Baby Banz, which are available for purchase here.

PHOTO RELEASE :By attending this event, I consent to my image (with or without my voice) being included in photographs and/or film and videotape of the event, and give the venue, The Rock and Roll Playhouse and their respective licensees and assigns the absolute and irrevocable right and permission to use and publish such content in any and all media, whether now known or hereafter developed.
