All Ages!  Kids 1 and under get in free.  Kids 2+ need a ticket.
The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country, allows kids to “move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. This children’s concert is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. See you at the show!

This concert for kids and families shares the music of the artist named above with a new generation of music lovers, but is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

The Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive, so we turn down the volume at our shows.  However, all kids experience music differently and you may find that your child is more comfortable wearing hearing protection earmuffs, such as Baby Banz, which are available for purchase here.

PHOTO RELEASE :By attending this event, I consent to my image (with or without my voice) being included in photographs and/or film and videotape of the event, and give the venue, The Rock and Roll Playhouse and their respective licensees and assigns the absolute and irrevocable right and permission to use and publish such content in any and all media, whether now known or hereafter developed.

Pool Kids’ third album, Easier Said Than Done, shimmers with emotional clarity and courage.

Adrenalizing and irresistible, it brings the dynamism of the band’s live show into the studio,

showcasing a style that’s unmistakably their own.

Pool Kids first started playing on Tallahassee’s house show circuit. The band earned a fan in

Paramore’s Hayley Williams with their debut album, 2018’s Music to Practice Safe Sex To. After

they filled out to a four-piece — Andy Anaya on guitar, Nicolette Alvarez on bass, Caden Clinton

on drums, and Christine Goodwyne on guitar and vocals — their 2022 self-titled record netted

critical acclaim with its lush, high-contrast mixture of pop, emo, and math rock. They’ve shared

stages with The Mountain Goats, PUP, Beach Bunny, and La Dispute. They hold fast to their

DIY principles: Anyone can do what Pool Kids do. Anyone can start a band.

For Easier Said Than Done, Pool Kids worked with producer Mike Vernon Davis (Foxing, Great

Grandpa). They funded the record themselves, and spent five weeks recording in Seattle. To

save money during sessions, they stayed with friends, in motels, and slept on the floor of the

studio. “We did a lot of searching, playing each song a million different ways and deciding which

one sounded the best,” says Goodwyne. With the completed record in hand, the band signed to

Epitaph.

Attucks Theatre 1010 Church St, Norfolk, VA 23510, Price: On sale soon!

Maria Bamford is revered for her deeply personal and experimental comedy about mental illness. She’s the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult and is the star of four hour-long standup specials (Local Act, Weakness is the Brand, Old Baby and Maria Bamford: the special, special, special!) and the surreal, semi-autobiographical Netflix comedy series Lady Dynamite, about a comedian who suffers a nervous breakdown.

Maria was the first female comic to have two half-hour Comedy Central Presents specials and starred alongside Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and Brian Posehn in The Comedians of Comedy. She also created and starred in the cult hit web series The Maria Bamford Show, in which she plays all the characters.

Maria is often recognized for her prolific voiceover work, including characters on Big Mouth and its spinoff Human Resources, HouseBroken, Teenage Euthanasia, Santa, Inc., Bob’s Burgers, Bojack Horseman, Summer Camp Island, Adventure Time, Talking Tom and Friends, Legend of Korra, Puss in Boots, CatDog and PBS’s Emmy-winning series Word Girl. She played DeBrie Bardeaux on Netflix’s Arrested Development and recurred on the ABC hit series Fresh off the Boat. Other TV guest roles include Night Court, Life & Beth, Portlandia, Kenan, Mr. Mayor, and large recurring roles on Hulu’s Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, and Showtime’s Flatbush Misdeameanors. Maria was also Emmy-nominated for her guest appearance on the Netflix children’s series Ask the StoryBots.

Maria’s late-night appearances include The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Late Night with Seth Meyers, CONAN, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show. Her interview series What’s Your Ailment? deals with the various mental struggles of celebrities and is available on the Topic streaming service. Her Audible Original You Are (A Comedy) Special is a semi-mock instructional book for both standup and life.

Elephant & Piggie’s “We are in a Play”

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and show starts at 12:00 p.m.
Perry Pavilion 451 Bank St, Norfolk, VA 23510, Price: Price may vary

Performance Dates:

  • May 30 at 2pm
  • May 31 at 2pm

Get ready for a musical experience, ripped from the pages of Mo Willems’ beloved, award-winning, best-selling children’s books, that will leave audiences doing the “Flippy Floppy Floory” dance all night long! In Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”, Gerald and Piggie take to the stage in a rollicking adventure that is perfect for young audiences.

An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best, best, “bestus” (a word Gerald and Piggie made up that means “very best”) friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all. She’s even happier and more excited than usual. That’s because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. And so begins a day when anything is possible.
