Improvageddon: The Ultimate Improv Competition
Prepare for Glory!! Prepare for IMPROVAGEDDON: The Ultimate Improv Competition! Three teams will be given just 15 minutes to perform any style of improv comedy they choose… all in a quest to be declared Improvageddon champ and raise the Hammer of Lowell in the final victory. This ain’t your daddy’s Improv cage match! If you think you’ve seen Improv competitions before then you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!
Improvageddon combines Improv Comedy with stylistic elements of Professional Wrestling to create a truly unique, and most definitely over-the-top Improv contest. Gimmicks will be displayed! Trash will be talked! Feats of comedic strength will be performed! Let the final war for comedic supremacy begin! Who will raise the Hammer of Lowell in the final victory? You’ll have to come to this month’s show to find out!

Golden Egg Hunt at Virginia Zoo

April 4 - April 26 2026

Every Saturday and Sunday there will be 10 large golden eggs hidden throughout the Zoo. All eggs will have a Virginia Zoo prize pack but 2 eggs each day will have larger prizes. NEW! This year we’ll have prizes from partner organizations included in the large eggs. We will also be hiding 30 small golden eggs each day with a Virginia Zoo trading card prize!

Small eggs will be hidden in the Zoo throughout the day, expanding the time that people can find them. All the large eggs will be hidden before the Zoo opens for the day.

Rules and Guidelines
  • Ten (10) large golden eggs will be hidden across the publicly accessible areas throughout the Zoo. Two (2) of these eggs will have BIG prizes. The big prizes of the day are as follows:
    • ONE MOCA Household Membership, Elation Brewing Sticker/Coupon
    • ONE four-pack of Zoo tickets + 4 meal vouchers + 4 Virginia Zoo Express train rides
  • Once your family finds a golden egg, go to the Membership Office to celebrate. Please be sure to only redeem one golden egg per family.
  • Eggs are available on a first come first serve basis only. Starting at 9:30am. Check signage in the Fountain Plaza for status of egg hunt.
  • Good luck and happy egg hunting!

Interested guests are invited to join us for an Introduction to Designing with Native Plants—a beginner-friendly workshop where you’ll learn how to create a sustainable, low-maintenance landscape that supports local wildlife and thrives in the Hampton Roads environment.

In This Workshop, You Will Learn:
  • The benefits of using native plants in your garden,
  • How to assess your landscape and choose the right plants,
  • Design principles to create a beautiful and functional garden,
  • Tips for sustainable gardening practices.
  • Handouts will be provided to take home and reinforce what you learn.

Bonus! Take home a native plant to add to your landscape!

Where: Virginia Zoo’s World of Reptiles Classroom. Program participants will meet in front of the Zoo 10 minutes before class start time.

Train Rides with the Easter Bunny

Climb aboard the Virginia Zoo Express and take a *photo with the Easter Bunny! Easter train rides will be offered on March 28 from 11am-2pm.

Easter Bunny Photos
  • Photos with the Easter Bunny are included with the purchase of a train ride. You MUST have purchased train tickets to get your photo with the Easter Bunny.
  • Photos are self-serve. Guests can take photos using their own devices.
  • Train rides cost $3 per person. Children under the age of 2 ride free.
Easter Egg Hunt
  • The Easter Egg Hunt will start at 12pm.
  • Guests are strongly encouraged to sign up at the Beazley Train Station between 10:30am – 11:30am. Registration closes once capacity (150 children) is reached.
  • Each child (ages 0-12) may collect up to 10 eggs.
  • Eggs include allergy-friendly candy options and small toys. Please ask staff for allergen information if needed. Staff can assist families with sorting candy and toys, but we do not offer exchanges.
  • Guests are encouraged to bring their own Easter baskets or reusable bags; a limited number of baskets will be available. Reusable totes will also be available for purchase in the Gift Shop.

Inclement Weather: For the safety, the Virginia Zoo Express Train cannot operate in weather below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, in the rain, or during high winds. Should this be the case, Easter Bunny photos will be moved to the Gift Shop. The Easter Egg Hunt will be canceled in the event of rain.

Help Build a New Wetland - Norfolk

Do something beautiful by assisting Elizabeth River Project’s restoration team construct a living shoreline for Colley Avenue’s new Kitting Mill Creek Pocket Park! All supplies will be provided for you, though waders and muck boots are encouraged if you have them. A water bottle and sunscreen are also encouraged. NOTE: This volunteer shift may require lifting up to 50lbs

Once registered, a staff member will reach out to confirm your shift and include full location address. Volunteers will be notified at least 16 hours prior to their shift if any changes or cancellations have been made due to weather or tides.

Volunteer Day: Ryan Resilience Lab Conservation Landscaping Share

Join us to “Do Something Beautiful” by assisting in maintaining the native landscape, including the shoreline buffer, living shoreline, green roof, and rain gardens at the Elizabeth River Project’s Ryan Resilience Lab. Volunteers with interest in sustainable landscaping practices encouraged as we build our cadre of conservation landscaping volunteers at the Lab.

All supplies will be provided (including gloves). Dress to be working outdoors, bring your reusable water bottle and preferred work gloves (if you have them).
