ERT + Norfolk Kayak Rentals are excited to offer a FREE kayak experience on the Elizabeth River. Join us for a 90-minute group paddle, launching from the Plum Point Park kayak launch. Previous kayak experience is REQUIRED.

Arrive: 8:30-8:45 AM
Launch: 9 AM
Return: 10:30 AM
Distance: 3-5 miles.

Free and discounted kayak reservations for June 29th are full. But, don’t forget you can bring your own, including SUP’s and canoes!

Pedal Through Norfolk’s Green Side – A Free Urban Agriculture Bike Tour

Join us for a FREE guided bike tour exploring the thriving world of urban agriculture right here in Norfolk! This leisurely ride will take you through a series of community gardens where you’ll discover how local residents and the Norfolk Master Gardeners are transforming small plots into productive, healthy growing spaces.

Along the way, you’ll learn about sustainable food practices, get inspired by neighborhood green initiatives, and see firsthand how gardening is building community and nourishing our city.

Bike helmet required. All skill levels welcome!

Each Wednesday in July, explore creative activities and lively performances in a family-focused program for all ages. Discover the exhibition Clearly Indigenous through action-packed verbs: blow, carve, weave, light, and mix. Both an educational and play-based program, the experience is designed for diverse learning styles and aims to foster learning and discovery throughout the summer months. Taking place throughout the Museum, Wonder Wednesdays are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and are free for all.

A special after-hours event, just for Virginia Zoo Members!

This year Members are invited to join us for a three night series featuring the Virginia Zoo’s 3 C’s of Conservation: Care, Connection & Community!

We are wrapping up this year’s Member Night Series with a focus on COMMUNITY! At this event you will learn all about conservation projects at the Zoo and beyond, how to engage in conservation in your backyard, and how YOU can contribute to become a wildlife protector too!

No reservations are needed for this event. Members must show their valid membership card and tickets are not available for non-members.

BONUS! Member children (ages 2-17) who attend ALL 3 Member Nights will receive a FREE wristband for bounce houses at ZooBoo.

ECO-CELL Donation Drive

Bring in your worn-out, unwanted electronics to Member Night for the chance to win an extra 2 FREE months added to your Membership or a Behind-the-Scenes Tour with our Eastern mountain bongo, Charlie! Donations will be collected at the front of the Zoo by our ZooCrew volunteers.
There will be an ECO-CELL raffle drawing at the end of each Member Night to choose a winner for the extra 2 free months of Membership. Donations brought to the June Member Night count towards the June raffle, while donations brought to the July or August Member Nights will count towards those raffles respectively. After all three Member Nights, everyone that brought in donations to any of the three Member Nights will be entered to win the Behind-the-Scenes Bongo Tour!
Each electronic item donated counts as one entry. Each Membership can earn up to 5 entries, but feel free to bring in additional donations!
Acceptable donations include:
- Cell phones,
- iPads/tablets,
- Smartwatches,
- Handheld GPS,
- iPods/MP3 players,
- Personal digital assistants (PDAs or handheld PCs),
- Handheld gaming systems,
- VR headsets,
- Digital handheld scanners, and
- Walkie-talkies.
Your ECO-CELL donation will be recycled, reducing mining for rare minerals and metals that are essential in producing electronics. By reducing mining, you are protecting many endangered species’ habitats, including the critically endangered Eastern mountain bongo’s home range. Click here to learn more about this initiative.

Gates will open at 5 PM. Event ends at 8 PM. As an outdoor venue, events are rain or shine unless otherwise indicated. If any changes are made, an announcement via an email to our members and/or ticket holders and on the Virginia Zoo social media channels will be issued prior the event.

The Zoo is a smoke-free facility; no smoking is allowed inside the Zoo. This also includes e-cigarettes and vaping.
