Opening of Edge Effect: Student Response Exhibit

May 2 2025

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Elizabeth River Project - Ryan Resilience Lab 5205 Colley Ave, Norfolk, VA 23508 (757) 399-7487

Since January, JJJJJerome Ellis’s Edge Effect has invited visitors at the Elizabeth River Project’s Ryan Resilience Lab to reflect on the delicate balance between time, gratitude, and the evolving wetlands of the Elizabeth River. Now, the journey continues as Old Dominion University students bring their voices and visions to the forefront, presenting their own dynamic responses to Ellis’s profound exploration.

This student response show delves into the intersecting themes of shorelines and shifts in climate, embracing the edge as a space of creative possibility and ecological inquiry. Together, the works open a dialogue about what it means to navigate boundaries with intention and imagination—bridging the gap between the present and the future.

Arrive early for an optional tour of the Ryan Resilience Lab at 4:30pm

Virginia International Tattoo

April 16 - April 19 2026

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Scope Arena 201 E Brambleton Ave, Norfolk, VA 23510 Price: $25 - $100 plus applicable fees

For centuries, the cry “Tattoo” echoed throughout Europe — first a call by to innkeepers to “Turn off the taps!” — and then as the name for a grand display of military bands and drill teams. The legendary Tattoos of Edinburgh and Nova Scotia are now rivaled by the largest Tattoo in the U.S. — our own Virginia International Tattoo. Mounting a mighty spectacle that changes every year, the Virginia International Tattoo summons more than 1,000 performers including fife and drum corps, bagpipers, military bands, precision drill teams, and performing ensembles ranging from step dancers to motorcycle stunt drivers.

A salute to international friendship and an emotional call to the love of country in us all, the Tattoo is an unmissable celebration. See the show that America’s premier tourism organization has named the Number One U.S. destination for travelers (American Bus Association Best of the Top 100 Events in North America).
