Norfolk Flooding Forum at Ryan Resilience Lab

May 22 2026

9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Elizabeth River Project Ryan Resilience Lab 4610 Colley Ave, Norfolk, VA 23508, Price: Make sure to register! - Free

Norfolk residents are invited to join a community-centered Flooding Forum presented in partnership with the Elizabeth River Project, Norfolk State University, the University of Virginia’s Coastal Futures (CoPe) initiative, and the City of Norfolk. This event is designed to give the public a clear, accessible understanding of local flooding issues—why they happen, how they affect daily life, and what each of us can do to stay safe and prepared.

Because this event is shaped by community needs, we’re inviting you to share your questions and concerns in advance so our flood‑risk specialists can address what matters most to you.

Complete the Norfolk Flooding Forum Feedback Survey at https://tinyurl.com/NorfolkFlooding

Why This Matters for Norfolk

Flooding affects nearly every aspect of life in our region—from commuting and school schedules to home maintenance and long‑term planning. This forum gives residents the tools to better understand the challenges we face and the strategies that can help us adapt. By bringing together scientists, students, city partners, and community members, the event creates a space for shared learning and collective problem‑solving.

PLUS! Arrive early at 4:30pm for an optional guided tour of the Ryan Resilience Lab and its green features – many focused on capturing stormwater to help reduce flooding and pollution

Toadies at The NorVa

August 7 2026

9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The NorVa 317 Monticello Ave, Norfolk, VA 23510, Price: Coming Soon!

After bursting onto the national scene with their breakthrough Rubberneck album, which begat their signature single “Possum Kingdom,” the successful follow-up single “Away” and the immense fan favorite “Tyler,” Toadies have recently revisited their platinum-selling 1994 debut with a 20th anniversary reissue of the album.

The Toadies remain raw. Vaden Todd Lewis still sings as though he’s on the precipice of insanity, clinging tenaciously but perhaps already plummeting. Lewis’s and Clark Vogeler’s guitars rip and tear like thick fingernails at supple flesh. Mark Reznicek and bass player Doni Blair (who joined the band in 2008) fuel the fury with relentless, seething rhythm.

Citizen at NorVa

September 2 2026

9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The NorVa 317 Monticello Ave, Norfolk, VA 23510, Price: On sale Friday, May 1st at 10:00 a.m.

17 years into an impressive career, Citizen still feel like underdogs who have never quite fit in. The band’s persistent sonic evolution and refusal to make the same record twice has earned them a reputation as one of the most consistently captivating bands in modern rock music. But following your own path often means walking it alone, and their unlikely rise from a band of Toledo high schoolers to long-running headliners capable of selling out shows around the world has been hard-earned. It’s precisely this commitment to their craft that has led to their new album, Halcyon Blues. It’s a dynamic and confident culmination of all that’s come before, making it crystal clear that for all their sonic restlessness, Citizen have always known exactly who they are. From the start, the band–vocalist Mat Kerekes, guitarist Nick Hamm, bassist Eric Hamm, along with newer members guitarist Mason Mercer and drummer Ben Russin–were steadfastly determined to follow their creativity wherever it led. Over the years they deftly moved through raw emo, menacing post-hardcore, anthemic alternative, garage-y indie pop, and so much more.
