River Life Uncovered: Walking tour with VIMS

June 14 2025

9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Elizabeth River Trail Elizabeth River Ferry, 333 Waterside Dr, Norfolk, VA 23510

In partnership with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the Elizabeth River Project, this relaxed walking tour offers a unique chance to explore and learn about the incredible biodiversity of the Elizabeth River.

As we stroll the trail, Troy Tuckey, Research Scientist at VIMS, will share the fascinating world of fish that call the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries home. Learn how these waters serve as vital nurseries for juvenile fish and important feeding grounds for adults. Learn how VIMS’s ongoing fish sampling in the Elizabeth River helps inform conservation efforts and guide decisions to protect vulnerable species.

Perfect for nature lovers, science enthusiasts, or anyone curious about what’s swimming just beneath the surface of our river! Free and open to everyone, no registration required.

Chuck Prophet at The Annex

9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
The Annex 2500 Church Street, Unit A Norfolk, VA 23517 Price: Tickets $25 advance // $30 reserved seat
Chuck Prophet
When a stage four lymphoma diagnosis forced him off the road and into the hospital, Chuck Prophet didn’t know if he’d live long enough to see the end of the year, let alone get back on tour. His savior was music and the result is “Wake the Dead,” his critically-lauded new album. Recorded with a band of brothers ¿Qiensave?, the collection explores the world of Cumbia music, which consumed and comforted Prophet during his illness and recovery. The songs are intoxicatingly rhythmic, demanding you move your body, with arrangements that blur the lines between tradition and innovation. There are flashes of rock and roll, punk, surf, and soul, all filtered through the streets of San Francisco.
