Celebrate the anniversary of our Virginia Zoo Express train reopening! One year ago our brand new electric train opened to the public, marking a monumental moment for our guests and the Zoo’s conservation efforts by introducing an environmentally-friendly train.
Our Gift Shop will be set up with a variety of train themed merchandise including engineer hats, bandanas, wooden train whistles, bears in engineer costumes, and train toys.
The Zoo is fun at any age – just come to our Senior Wednesday series from August 20 through September 24 and see for yourself! We are welcoming all senior citizens ages 62 years and above to receive free general admission all day with a valid ID as proof of age. Walkup tickets only. Accompanying non-senior visitors will need to purchase tickets at the gate or in advance online. Last entry is at 3pm and Zoo closes at 4pm. We hope you stop by and enjoy unleashing your inner wild child!

Our educators, volunteers, and community partners will help reduce anxieties kids often associate with visiting the doctor’s office by teaching about the importance of regular medical care (in both humans and animals) while letting kids express themselves through play.

Unleash your inner wild child during our adults-only evening at the Zoo! Trails and exhibits will be open late and there will be drinks, a DJ, and a Food Truck Round Up alongside yard games to play in our Event Field.
*Please note that in order to not disrupt our animals’ routines, exhibit trails will close at 7:30pm, though the event continues until 8pm. The Goat Yard in the ZooFarm will remain open until 7:45pm.
*Event is Ages 21+ and ALL IDs will be checked before entering.

📣 Calling all future train conductors! Anybody that visits the Zoo wearing their best conductor outfit will receive Buy One, Get One for $1 Train Rides*. Additionally, guests that visit dressed like a conductor will receive a complimentary bandana and train whistle at the train station.
*If a rider in a party is under 2 and the BOGO cannot be used, a voucher for $1 for a future train ride will be given.
To celebrate First Responder Day, the Virginia Zoo Express will be offering Buy One, Get One for $1 train rides* to all first responders!

Join us as we partner with Autism Society Tidewater Virginia and Complete the Puzzle to provide guests of all abilities and needs, along with their families, the opportunity to visit the Virginia Zoo in a less overwhelming environment. On this special date and time we will provide stress-free activities for your Zoo visit through adapted programs and a reduced number of visitors. With access to animal ambassadors, activity carts, Run Wild! Discovery Zone nature play, and more the whole family can enjoy this sensory-friendly morning at the Zoo.

Tickets
Due to limited capacity, timed tickets will be required for entry to the Zoo for this time and date. Individuals with an ADA-Recognized Disability and One Companion can receive free admission upon request. ADA Admission is only redeemable at the ticket booth. All additional family and friends attending are required to purchase & reserve your tickets ahead of time.
