We’re inviting the goodest boys and girls to visit the Zoo to see, smell, and hear animals they’ve never encountered before or play with new canine fur-ever friends. Everyone is sure to have a ball, with PAWsome enrichment opportunities for your best friends and our Zoo animals!
To ensure that this event is a safe treat for all animals involved, both pets and Zoo residents alike, your fur babies MUST be well-trained and vaccinated. Dogs behaving in an unruly or aggressive manner (i.e. excessive barking, growling, lunging, biting etc.) will be required to leave without a refund.

This fall, monarch butterflies are traveling up to 3,000 miles on their journey south to their overwintering grounds in Mexico. All ages are invited to join us as we walk and run on a course around the Zoo to support monarch conservation!

Lights, camera, action! 📽️ Join us for a movie under the stars. Gates open at 6:30 PM and the movie begins at dusk (around 7:00 PM). Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase during the event.

No outside food or beverages are permitted. Animal exhibits & trails will be closed. Chairs & blankets welcome, but please be mindful of blocking the view of surrounding guests.

Celebrate the anniversary of our Virginia Zoo Express train reopening! One year ago our brand new electric train opened to the public, marking a monumental moment for our guests and the Zoo’s conservation efforts by introducing an environmentally-friendly train.
Our Gift Shop will be set up with a variety of train themed merchandise including engineer hats, bandanas, wooden train whistles, bears in engineer costumes, and train toys.

We are welcoming all senior citizens ages 62 years and above to receive free general admission all day with a valid ID as proof of age. Walkup tickets only. Accompanying non-senior visitors will need to purchase tickets at the gate or in advance online. Last entry is at 3pm and Zoo closes at 4pm. We hope you stop by and enjoy unleashing your inner wild child!
