Join us for a special screening of the powerful new documentary Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse, followed by an in-depth conversation with the film’s directors, Philip Dolin and Molly Bernstein. This revealing portrait offers an intimate look at the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of Maus, exploring how personal trauma, the Holocaust, cultural catastrophe, and political unrest have shaped Spiegelman’s life and work.
After the screening, the documentary’s directors will take the stage to discuss the making of the film, the impact of Spiegelman’s work on Holocaust education, and how his artwork still resonates with communities today. Audiences will gain behind-the-scenes insights into the storytelling process and the unique responsibility of documenting an artist of such impact. This is a must-see event for fans of comics, documentary film, and anyone interested in how artists transform chaos into lasting cultural impact.

Book & Look explores the themes in the exhibition Architects of Being with Modern Art: A Novel by Evelyn Toyton. Inspired by the life of Lee Krasner, the novel follows Belle Prokoff coming to terms with her artistic career being overshadowed by her famous husband. Discussions in the exhibition will connect themes of self-discovery in the book with the way Nevelson and Slobodkina made names for themselves in the male-dominated art world.

Prerequisite: Any One Full Day Fusing Class
Take the fused glass plate one step further! Learn the basics of cutting glass and chose from a variety of plate shapes in this 1.5-day class. First, create patterns and design and cut glass to fit these patterns. Overnight, the glass will melt in a kiln into one cohesive piece. The next afternoon, cut and rearrange the pattern to make complex visual layers. Achieve the patterns with a combination of glass sheets, stripes, and stringers (thin rods of glass), and finish the day with a unique design.

In this introductory evening course, use a torch and simple tools to melt and form solid glass into a heart-shaped pendant. Practice making a heart with clear rods of glass and later learn how to apply colorful glass to create a one-of-a-kind piece.
