Before film and television (but after oral tradition), there were books! Books still exist to this very day as a popular means of storytelling. Here at The Push Comedy Theater, we’ve decided to celebrate the staying power of books by starting our very own book club!

Bring your favorite book and tell us about it. Our talented team of improvisers (voracious readers, all) will perform the entire story before your very eyes in about 20 minutes.

From classic literature to pulp fiction, we’re ready to introduce your favorite book to the world! Push Book Club is a fully improvised show. You bring the book… we’ll share it with the audience the best way we can… completely improvised.

This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway—from its iconic score packed with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk to its stirring tale of Dorothy’s journey to find her place in a contemporary world.

With direction by Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney’s Aida), choreography by JaQuel Knight (Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies,” Black Is King) and additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers), this dynamite infusion of ballet, jazz, and modern pop brings a whole new groove to easing on down the road. Blending powerful storytelling with music from the civil rights era of the 1950s and 1960s, A Loving Community also features excerpts from the highly anticipated new opera, Loving v. Virginia, premiering in April/May 2025 as a co-commission with the Richmond Symphony. This 60-minute program is performed by Virginia Opera’s talented Herndon Foundation Emerging Artists and will conclude with a brief Q&A session.

Designed for audiences aged 15 and older, A Loving Community offers a poignant and enriching exploration of history, music, and social change, making it an ideal program for junior high students through adults.

Calling all Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts! Join us at Norfolk Botanical Garden to complete your Outdoor Art badge requirements!

Scouts will be divided into groups based on their respective Scout Level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior) to complete the badge requirements. Attending chaperones will be asked to assist their youngest Scout if more than one Scout is attending. Please no sibling tag-alongs.

Garden Member Discounts: NBG Members are required to register all Scout and adult chaperones attending the event. There is no discount for Scout tickets. NBG Member Adults receive complimentary entry with a registered Girl Scout and are asked to register their free chaperone tickets for head count purposes.

Not-Yet-Members are required to purchase tickets for all attending Scouts and adult chaperones. Scout Leaders who are not members of the Garden are required to purchase adult tickets.
